To start off, here are the strengths I managed to pinpoint:

While not up to the latest DIGIC 4 technology, the images are still excellent for the needs of a non-professional photographer. - Most of the body is made of aluminum. I once dropped it outside on solid concrete and nothing happened (well, except of some nasty scratches on the case). A plastic cased camera would have shattered to pieces. - Logical user interface. Anyone can figure out how to work its basic functions without even touching the user manual. If you have ever operated a digital camera you will know what to do with this one. - The Macro mode produces stunning pictures - Optical viewfinder, particularly useful when the sun is shining so brightly that you can't see anything on the LCD, or when you want to turn the screen off to conserve battery.
Cons and limitations
- No manual control over aperture, shutter speed and focusing. These belong to higher end cameras, you get what you pay for. - Annoying noise starting at ISO 400, which makes taking pictures in the dark rather impossible - Very slow auto-focus and shutter speeds. Quite impossible to shoot moving targets. - Shutter lag increases heavily if you are using the flash mode. You can lose up to several seconds waiting for the flash to charge.
The overall impression I had was great, I would rate it 5 out of 5. Even though it has some limitations, I didn't find them to be too annoying and didn't affect my shooting experience. As a final piece of advice, I would recommend buying a few spare rechargeable batteries and at least one 8 GB memory card, since the camera comes with a tiny 32MB one.

No, I won't say I'm an expert or a professional when it comes to digital photography and the gears related to it.
BUT I do know what I want when I'm out to buy digital cameras.
I want a point-and-shoot digital camera that's, first and foremost, able to deliver images and photos that are crisp, bright, colorful, and amazingly detailed.
And I'm not the type that would spend days or hours reading the manual and trying to figure out how the features and functions of the camera work. I guess I'm lazy, BUT I'd rather spend time taking great pictures instead.
Last BUT not the least, I want a camera that's reasonably priced. Now that's neither cheap nor expensive. As long as I think the camera and its features are worth every dime I've spent on it and it's within my budget, it's good to go.
One of the digital cameras I've owned really 'owned' in all 3 respects - the PowerShot SD1100IS 8 mp.
SD1100IS 8mp is a fine addition in the long PowerShot SD series of Canon. I've had cameras from the Lumix and CyberShot series, and to be fair, I think they did fairly well especially in the quality department.
BUT no camera I've owned other than the PowerShot SD1100IS 8 mp brought the house down like it did!
So what's with this Canon PowerShot anyway?
I won't go into the details BUT let's check out the things, features, and functions I loved with PowerShot SD1100IS 8 mp.
To jumpstart things, PowerShot SD1100IS 8 mp, as its name suggests, is beefed up with 8 megapixels.
And just in case you don't know, 8 megapixels is more than enough to provide you with GREAT resolution that allows you to enlarge pictures by 30 more inches and the quality, details, etc. would stay just as amazing.
Not bad for digital camera like PowerShot SD1100IS 8 mp!
Add to the fact that it has a 3x Optical zoom, which enables you to zoom in and create crystal clear images even after cropping, editing, and magnifying makes the PowerShot SD1100IS 8 mp a BIG hit.
Now just about any camera from the PowerShot series has those features. And I think something else made this camera from PowerShot SD series a winner.

This year, Canon rolls out the Canon PowerShot SD1100 IS 8.0MP Digital Camera. This camera is an updated design from the PowerShot SD1000 from last year. So what has changed? First of all, the aesthetic design, switched to a slightly different zoom range and most importantly, the added optical image stabilization feature. The mega pixels has also been raised from 7.1 to 8 mega pixels. The camera also features from refines features.
The camera comes in a wide variety of different colors, including silver, brown, blue, pink and gold. The different design is just slightly thicker than last year's and this year's model offers more rounded edges and a slightly curved indent on the right-hand side that provides a perfect placement for the middle finger when taking pictures with the camera.
The slider lets you switch to video recording, still image capture and of course, playback mode. Three dedicated buttons for Menu, Display and Direct Printing are still there, including one more control for the circular four-way rocker with a Function/Set button in the middle.
The SD 1100 includes a face-detection feature also. Flash output with white balance is a standard feature on this camera. To help with ISO settings, the SD 1100 IS includes Motion Detection Technology, which helps the ISO settings establish if there is a moving subject at hand when you have the camera set to High ISO Auto Mode. This Canon model also includes a 38-114mm-equivalent 2.8-4.9 3X optical zoom lens in contrast to last year's 35-105 mm lens.
